Meeting Minutes & Updates
Upcoming Planning Group Meeting Schedule
Last Meeting: The Lower Colorado (Region K) Regional Water Planning Group (RWPG) met on April 10, 2013 in Austin. Highlights include:
-
LCRA meteorologist Bob Rose made a weather presentation and said that Texas is entering its third year of drought and he doesn’t expect any immediate relief. Temperature and rainfall predictions for the next three months are for slightly warmer and drier conditions in much of Texas, although there are indications that conditions could return to normal after that.
-
David Meesey of TWDB gave an update on municipal population and water demand projections, rule changes relating to drought contingency planning that affect the 2016 regional water plan, and reviewed the three processes/steps to amend a regional water plan.
-
AECOM consultants discussed the potential water management strategies list, including those categories required by TWDB guidelines, strategies considered in the 2011 plan and those recommended, specific WWP strategies from LCRA and Austin studies, non-traditional strategies, strategies/projects recommended in recent facility planning studies, and potential strategies suggested through public comments or from RWPG members. They also discussed groundwater availability estimates for 2070 and obtaining data and justification for updating population and demand projections from Region K water user groups.
