Region I Planning Group

The East Texas Regional Water Planning Area is composed of all or parts of 20 counties, stretching from the Golden Triangle of Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange in the south to Tyler in the north and from the Texas-Louisiana border in the east to the Trinity River Basin boundary in the west. The largest cities include Beaumont, Tyler, Lufkin, and Nacogdoches. The major economic sectors are petrochemical, timber, and agriculture. The principal surface water sources are the Sabine and Neches rivers and their tributaries.

Meeting Minutes & Updates

Upcoming Planning Group Meeting Schedule

Last Meeting: The East Texas (Region I) Regional Water Planning Group (RWPG) met on February 13, 2013, in Nacogdoches. Highlights include:

  • Motion was approved accepting the resignation of George Campbell (health reasons) – Other Co. interests; Herman Reed – Agricultural; and Glenda Kindle – Public Interests. All were founding members of the Region I group.
  • Motion was approved of the RWPG’s acceptance of using the mining numbers presented by the Consultant.  These numbers are the higher of the two numbers recommended for mining use in the counties either recommended originally by the RWPG or as revised by the updated Oil and Gas Water Use in Texas Report (2012).  A letter will be sent to TWDB.
  • Motion was approved for an Amendment to the By-Laws to clean up some terminology and to allow notification of vacancies by direct mail of the County judges and particular interests groups.
  • Motion was approved to retain the current members of the Executive Committee
