Lake Winters (Colorado River Basin)
Lake Winters (also known as Elm Creek Lake and popularly known as New Lake Winters) is located five miles east of Winters in Runnels County, on Elm Creek, a tributary of the Colorado River. The lake is owned by the city of Winters and used for municipal water supply and recreational purposes. Construction of the dam was completed in 1983. The Elm Creek Dam is an earthfill embankment of 5,640 feet long with a maximum height of 57 feet, including a spillway of 640 feet long. The lake has a capacity of 8,374 acre-feet encompassing a surface area of 643 acres at conservation pool elevation of 30 feet above mean sea level. The dam controls a drainage area of 65.5 square miles.
