Lake Halbert (Trinity River Basin)
Lake Halbert is located about four miles southeast of Corsicana in central Navarro County, on Little Elm Creek, a tributary of the Post Oak Creek, a tributary of the Richland Creek which is a tributary of the Trinity River. The lake is owned and operated by the city of Corsicana for municipal, industrial, and recreational purposes. Construction of the dam was started in 1920 and completed in 1921. Water Right Permit No. 803 (Application No. 841) was issued to City of Corsicana on July 1, 1925 and authorized the already constructed dam and impoundment.
In 1950 the spillway was raised one foot, to an elevation of 368 feet above mean sea level. When built prior to 1924 the Dam had a 2 to 1 slope. In 1994 due to damage from weather the Dam was reworked to the present 4 to 1 slope. The reservoir capacity is estimated to be 6,033 acre-feet, with a surface area of 603 acres. The drainage area above the dam is twelve square miles.
