Greenbelt Lake (Red River Basin)

Greenbelt Lake (Photo source: http://www.aaoutfitter.com/ranches.htm)Greenbelt Lake, also known as Greenbelt Reservoir, is located approximately four miles north of Clarendon in Donley County, Texas on the Salt Fork, a tributary of the Red River. Other smaller creeks, including Kelly Creek, also supply to the reservoir. Water right permit No. 1917 was initially granted to the Greenbelt Municipal and Industrial Water Authority and the Texas Water Development Board for the construction of the dam and reservoir in August 11, 1958 and was amended (No. 1917B) on November 6, 1964.

Designed by Freese, Nichols and Endress, construction of the dam started on April 12, 1966 and was completed on March 12, 1968 by Adams Construction Co. Deliberate impoundment of water started on December 5, 1966. The reservoir is currently owned by the Greenbelt Municipal and Industrial Water Authority and is used for municipal, industrial and mining water supply.
