This map shows the extent and location of the Ogallala Aquifer GAM (southern portion).

Ogallala Aquifer (southern portion)Groundwater Availability Model (GAM)

The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) contracted with Daniel B. Stephens and Associates (who was teamed with the Bureau of Economic Geology and several individual experts) to develop a model of the southern portion of the Ogallala Aquifer in Texas. A final report and model were delivered in 2003.

In 2006, the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) contracted again with Daniel B. Stephens and Associates (who was teamed with the Bureau of Economic Geology and several individual experts) to add the Edwards-Trinity (High Plains) to the existing southern part of the Ogallala aquifer GAM. A final report and model were delivered in 2009. The new model and report can be found on the Edwards-Trinity (High Plains) Aquifer GAM page.

This GAM has been superseded by the Edwards-Trinity (High Plains) Aquifer GAM, which includes the Ogallala Aquifer (southern portion). However, model users interested in details about the development of the Ogallala Aquifer GAM (southern portion) should still refer to the GAM report listed below.

Model Files

The Ogallala Aquifer GAM (southern portion) has been incorporated into the Edwards-Trinity (High Plains) Aquifer GAM. See the Edwards-Trinity (High Plains) Aquifer GAM page for model files.

Model Grid

Model grid cells are geographically assigned to counties, groundwater conservation districts, river basins, groundwater management areas, and regional water planning areas within the model study area using a centroid based approach. The model grid is available in ESRI® shapefile format and comma-delimited text file.

See the Edwards-Trinity (High Plains) Aquifer GAM page for the model grid.

Aquifer Data

The Ogallala Aquifer GAM (southern portion) has been incorporated into the Edwards-Trinity (High Plains) Aquifer GAM. See the Edwards-Trinity (High Plains) Aquifer GAM page for aquifer data.
